How to care for your bamboo sheets:
Always wash your sheets in cold water – hot water will cause pilling and wear them out faster. Wash them with similar colors, and avoid washing with rough fabrics. When possible, use a mild detergent. Fabric softener is not necessary, your sheets will be just as soft if you don’t use it, and they will last longer with less chemicals.
Do not bleach.
Line drying is the best method for drying your bamboo sheets. However, this is obviously impractical for many. Use the lowest setting on your dryer – this may be perma-press, delicate, low tumble dry, etc. Rather than just stuffing your sheets into the dryer, if you gently (and loosely!) fold them in, they will be less wrinkled when they are finished. Remove sheets promptly, as soon as the cycle finishes.
Eco-friendly laundry detergent
You can make your own environmentally-friendly laundry detergent at home! You just need three simple ingredients:
1 bar of soap
½ cup of borax (can be purchased at some grocery stores, or online)
½ cup of baking soda
- Grate the soap into a container that you want to keep the detergent in – it should be airtight.
- Add borax and baking soda; mix well.
- Store in airtight container.
Use 1 tablespoon for small loads, and 2 tablespoons for larger loads and loads that are heavily soiled.
